The frigid desert and gorgeous environment of Ladakh’s Nubra Valley are well-known. The Nubra (Siachin) River and the Shyok River separate it. The valley is connected to Leh by the Khardung La, one of the world’s highest motorable passes. The Nubra Valley is one of Ladakh’s most renowned tourist sites, with its Diskit Monastery and Hunder Village.
Hunder Village is known for its cold desert and opportunity to camp and rides Bactrian camels in Nubra Valley (double-humped camel). The Diskit Monastery, the region’s oldest and largest monastery, is a must-see in Nubra Valley’s major town. The major attraction, however, is the 32-meter Maitreya Buddha statue, which is difficult to miss because of its enormity.
