Talakaveri, atop the Brahmagiri hill near Bhagamandala in Kodagu district, Karnataka, is the source of the river Kaveri (not to be confused with the Brahmagiri mountain further south). The Kodavas built a tank that is now thought to be the river’s source.
According to legend, the river began as a spring feeding a tank or a Kundike, then ran underground before rising as the Kaveri at a later era. Swimming in the tank is considered holy on certain occasions because it is located near a temple dedicated to the Goddess Kaveriamma.
